Easter Wraps

For Easter this year we wanted to try something that we hadn't seen done before.  I absolutely love the creative minds of all those wonderful hair bloggers out there and sometimes I get lost in their genius.  :)
This hairstyle is quite simple.  Begin by creating a zig-zag part at the front of the hair and then sectioning out some hair, down to the ear, on both side of that part.
Pull each side into an elastic and create a Pull-Through out of each small piggie.  Now create a 3-Strand Braid with each of the two sections and secure both braids together down at the neckline with an elastic.
Lift the braids up and comb the remainder of the hair nice and flat.
Now you're going to start with one side and gather a section of hair right below the ear and twist it tightly.  Now take that twist and wrap it around the braid.  When you get down to the elastic just pull the twist down behind and secure it into the braids with another elastic.
Continue gathering small pieces of hair from the side of the head and twisting them - then wrapping those twists around the braid and securing them at the bottom with new elastics.
Once you have gathered up one side of the head and wrapped all the hair, move over and repeat the steps on the other side of the head.
You will end up with several small elastics around your group of hair at the neckline but you can add a hair clip to conceal them.  We've also added some flat iron curls to the ponytail to give it some body.
Also add some hair pins to your Pull-Throughs at the top and your hairstyle is finished.
Hope you all had a great Easter!

Toddler Piggies Minus the Toddler

This one is really simple and works best on wet hair.
Part the hair into two equal halves using any part that you like. - we've done a zig-zag part here.  Now pull each half up into a piggie.
Braid the piggie using any braid you like.  Be sure to leave about 3 inches unbraided at the bottom.
Now Wrap the braid around itself and pull the ends through the middle.  (Just like tying a know in a piece of thread.)
Secure your braid against the heads with a couple bobby pins on each side.
You can either dry the ends that are sticking out and curl them or you can shape them into curls while they are still wet.  (Depending on which works better for your princess's hair.)

Halloween Hairdos: Spider Rings

If your house is like our house, we always end up with a million little plastic spider rings after Halloween.
We found this bag of spiders, bats and skulls and decided to try and put them to use.
Basically you will be decorating Puffy Braids with the rings by cutting a slit in the bottom of the ring and then wrapping it over the elastic on the Puffy Braid.
We started our Puffy Braid with a Zig-Zag Part.
Then just create a new section of the Puffy Braid every time the part hits a point.
Once your Puffy Braid is completed and all of the hair has been added in, you can decorate it with your rings in any pattern you like.
You can also do it according to theme if you like:
Spiders
Bats
Skulls
We also added some cute little bows to the bottom of the ponytails.
The ribbons in the bows matched the rings perfectly which was just a lucky coincidence.

Jumping Through Hoops Re-Visited

I was looking at my princess the other night when she was wearing her "Jumping Through Hoops" hairstyle and I wondered what it would look like without braids.
So here we have a variation on the original and I actually like this one a bit better.
Begin by parting the hair in half anyway you like - We've just made up a fun little part.
Now pull each half up into a piggie.
Separate out 1/3 of one of the piggies and set it aside.  Now take the remaining hair from that piggie and create a Pull-Through Braid.
Now weave the strand that you set aside in and out of the elastics using a Topsy Tail.  Secure it at the bottom with another elastic when you're finished.
Repeat the same process on the other piggie.
Now grab your favorite hair accessories to glam it up and you're all set!

The Trifecta

We were getting a little creative one morning and my princess came up with a little style of her own.
We divided her hair into 3 equal sections vertically first.
Then we pulled each section into a ponytail and braided it - securing the bottom with an elastic.
We pulled the bottom elastic up to the top elastic and combined them with one final elastic which left us with a looped braid.
We curled the loose ends just to finish it off a bit.
Forgive some of the pictures, the wind was blowing VERY hard that morning.

PARTicularly PARTial to These PARTS

It's a PARTS  PARTy.  :)
I use different parts in a lot of my hairstyles so I thought I'd kill some time while we were in our hotel and get pictures of my favorites.
This is the "Butt Crack"  (Thanks to my sis-in-law for the great name.)  :)
This is the "Zig Zag".  (My princess thinks they look like "greater" and "less than" signs.)
You can make your angle at whatever degree you like and they can be as tight or as wide as you like.
 Here's the "Swirlie".
Just make the "S" shape down the scalp.
We call this one "Blocks" because it's kind of like blocks stacked on top of each other.
Just  create 90 degree angles down the head - making sure to keep the lines parallel.
This last one is the "Heartbeat".
Notice how it's only on the top half of the head and the bottom is the "Butt Crack" part.  You can mix all different parts together for a different look.
This is the best comb to use for making parts.  It's a rat-tailed comb that I picked up at Sally's Beauty Supply for a couple bucks but I'm sure you can find it other places as well.  I use this comb for everything and would suggest picking one up if you don't already have one.
Remember that parts can be made anywhere on the head and do not need to always be centered.  They also don't need to cover the whole head.  Be creative and you can come up with all sorts of fun stuff.

The Firework

This is a borrowed hairstyle but I've always loved it and I think it was perfect for the Pioneer Day fireworks show in Utah. You have to kind of use you imagination with this one but see how it starts in the middle of her hair and shoots out into colorful explosions just like a firework! (I know it's a stretch) :) Start by parting the hair straight down the middle and tie one half off with an elastic. Now divide the other half into three equal triangles. Tie each little section off with an elastic to hold it out of the way. Now take the elastic out of one triangle section and twist it into an Odango Bun. (Odango Buns are made by twisting the whole strand of hair and then twisting the hair around itself and making a bun.) Secure the bun with an elastic. Now do this with the other two sections and repeat the process on the other half of the head. (Tip: It looks best if you can make the parts on the second half shoot straight off from the parts on the first side.) Finish it all off by twisting some pipe cleaners around each bun. The sparkly pipe cleaners work the best. She had a ball at the festivities and everyone kept commenting on her hair.
