Halloween Hairdos: Minnie Mouse

So let's be honest... this isn't really a "Halloween Hairdo" but I thought I'd post it in case anyone out there is doing Minnie Mouse as a costume.  This is more a hairstyle my princess just wears all the time.  :)  It's also our official "Disneyland Do".
Grab two bun molds (or rolled socks) because they are a must have for this style.  Part the hair into two halves and pull each half up into a very high ponytail.
Now pull each ponytail through a bun mold and spread the hair out to cover the entire thing.  Tie an elastic around the mold but leave it just a bit loose.
Now tilt the mold up so that it is facing the front of the head.  This will pull some hair through the elastic a bit more but that is what you want.  Now secure the bun molds in the upright position with bobby pins.  I use about 6 pins on each mold just because we usually want a nice tight hold.
Pull the excess hair back behind each mold and twist it so that all the strand are tight.  Now cross them over one another on the back of the head and hold them together with a claw clip on each side.  Tuck any loose ends back behind the twists.  Spray it really good with hairspray and it shouldn't budge.
This is a bow that I made to mimic Minnie's actual bow and it's just stitched fabric with an alligator clip on each end of the bow to hold it in place.  It would also look cute with a headband and red flower clip.
Clip your bow right in front of your Minnie ears and she'll look perfect.
If you don't have any bow that works, you can always leave it out and just go with the Mickey ears.  It's still absolutely darling!

Halloween Hairdos: The Haunted House & The Trick-or-Treat Bag

Yesterday I told you that I had some more hairstyles using the netting from the "Spider Web" and here they are.
Pull all the netting up off the head and down into a ponytail.  Now add a couple of ghost clips to create a Haunted House.  (We made our clips out of ribbon but you can just cut some out of white felt and glue them to bobby pins or clips.)  Looking at it now, I should have added a full moon at the top and some bats...  :)
Another fun look is the 3D Netting Ponytail.  Simply tie all your ends together at the boom of your ponytail and add a couple fun Halloween clips.
You can see that it has that 3-Dimensional look to it.
You could also place your spider clips on this for a different type of web.
This is The Trick-or-Treat Bag and this is just a "for fun" style.  Your netting is already in the shape of a bag, so just fill it with some trick-or-treat candy and tie an elastic at the bottom to hold it in.
Add a cute little clip to the top to finish it off - we love Mickey at our house!
My sons loved this style and chased my princess around the house trying to grab her candy...  they live to torment her.  :)
Here are a couple of great updos also using this netting and this one is pretty with the curls on top.  The curls were just created from the twist buns off the "Spider Web" style but you could also curl them with an iron.
Take the candy out of the "Trick-or-Treat Bag" and also take out your clip.  Now lift the bottom elastic up into the air and push it down into the middle of the netting until it meets the elastic from the original ponytail.
Attach the two elastics together with a claw clip (which will be hidden under the curls) or bobby pins.
Let the curls fall loosely on top and your Netting Updo is complete.
The last Updo is very simple.
Have your 3D Netting Ponytail hanging down and simply pull the bottom elastic up to the original ponytail elastic (making sure to go underneath all the netting) and tie them together with a festive ribbon.
Have the bow tied down at the bottom instead of the top.
Let the curls fall down below the bow and she's set to go.
Now see all the fun styles you can create out of the one?!
 Have fun!

Halloween Hairdos: Spider Web

Now this one does require some time so make sure you don't plan to do this with only 5 minutes to spare.  :)  Also, you can recycle this style to create LOTS of different looks.  I'll add some more tomorrow. You'll see that it is worth the time that goes into it because you can get a few days of styles out of it.
Here are the little spider clips my princess and I made specifically for this hairstyle.  Aren't they cute?!
Have the hair completely wet and begin with a very TIGHT ponytail in the back of the head.  Make sure you gather all of the hair up into it.
Now grab whatever color of elastics you want for the netting.  We started ours by breaking the ponytail into 6 small sections and tying each off with an elastic 1/2 inch above the starting elastic.  You'll want to pull each section outward along the head so that they are spreading out.
*Tip: Use small claw clips to hold the sections you are not working with in place.*
Divide each new section into two equal pieces.  Combine the right piece and the left piece from the adjacent section with an elastic.  Continue doing this around the entire head until all 6 elastics are in for your second row of netting.
Continue adding rows of netting as far out as you can go.  (It will depend on the length of your princess's hair.)  When you've reached a point where you're netting is finished, simply roll any extra hair into a small twist bun and secure it with a tiny claw clip.  You could also curl the ends if you would like, my princess just had tiny ends left over.
Now you can grab your spider clips and add them wherever you like on your web.
Don't forget to check back to see the "Haunted House", "Trick or Treat Bag" and a couple fun updos you can do using this hairstyle.  :)

Halloween Hairdos: Bone Yard

There are a bunch of twists in this hairstyle and those represent the bones in our bone yard - you may have to use your imagination with this one.  :)
Start by pulling a section of hair from the front into a small side ponytail.  Use your Topsy Tail and create a Pull-Through.  Keep your Topsy Tail handy because you'll use it a lot in this hairstyle.  Divide the rest of the hair in half and tie one side off while you work with the other.
Create a part from the ear up to the middle part and tie it into an elastic - making sure to include the front section if it is on that half.  Create a Inverted Pull-Through by pulling your Topsy Tail up instead of down.
Create another part parallel to the one just above it but about 2 inches down.  Divide the new section into two equal squares and tie each off with an elastic.  Now grab the hair from the Inverted Pull-Through and divide it into two pieces.  Twist each one and add them to the squares just below with more elastics.
Now twist those two ponytails down and add them in with the remaining hair at the bottom of the head by securing them with one elastic.  Repeat the exact same steps on the opposite side of the head and you should end up with two ponytails.
Create a Corkscrew out of each ponytail and secure them at the bottom with elastics.
You can add some festive Halloween bows and leave it finished at this point.
We wanted to get a bit more creative so we grabbed some little whistles the kids got in a goody bag.
You can use the skulls or the pumpkins or whatever else you come across.
We just tucked them into the first Inverted Pull-Throughs and they seemed to hold tightly.
They help create the look of the actual bone yard.
Spooky yet darling!

Halloween Hairdos: The Coffin

I would suggest that you use this hairstyle on a day off from school because I think it would cause quite the distraction in the classroom!  :)
I found a group of these skeletons on a garland at the store.  I bought them to use as a decoration in the house but have ended up using them for hairstyles instead.  I simply cut them off of the garland and they were ready to go.
Start by parting the hair from ear to ear and then dividing that top portion into 4 equal areas.  Secure each area with an elastic and then create a Pull-Through.
Now take the ponytail from the middle-left section and divide it in half.  Take the right half of the ponytail and pull it over to the middle-right section and add it in by securing it with an elastic.  Take the other half of the middle-left section and add it to the far-left section about 1/4 inch down.  Go back to the middle-right section and divide that into half. (You will only use one half of this and the other half will just fall straight down.)  Grab the right half and add it to the far-right section about 1/4 inch down.  Now comb the rest of the hair down to the neck and make two tight ponytails - making sure that right section from above has been added into the right ponytail and the left section into the left ponytail.
Grab your plastic yarn needle again and plenty of black ribbon to outline your coffin.  Thread the needle by folding some dental floss through the eye, placing the ribbon in the dental floss and then pulling the floss with the ribbon back through the eye. Now simply weave around the entire outline of the coffin.
I've also left some extra ribbon on each end and wrapped it around the bottom elastics. I then braided the ponytails and included the ribbon in the braids.
Grab your skeleton and get ready to attach it. We've wrapped some dental floss around the neck and tied it to the top two elastics.  We've also glued some bobby pins to the back of the legs and pinned those right to the hair.  I'm sure there are several ways to attach this guy but this way seemed to hold quite well.
We added some cute little bows to the ends of the braids so that the whole hairstyle wasn't completely grotesque - but then again, that's what Halloween is all about right?!

Infinity

We couldn't come up with a good name for this hairstyle but I told her it looks like the sign for Infinity so that became it's name.  (My daughter's favorite part of all of this is making up the names of the hairstyles!)
I went digging through my princess's old toddler boxes to find some ribbon sculpture clips that I made back in the day.  I don't know why I ever put them away because she can still use them and she was actually quite excited to see them.  (I'll add them into hairstyles once and a while so you can see some of them.)
This is "Alli" and this whole hairstyle was designed by my princess just for this clip.  :)  She wanted her to have a swimming pool right on her head.
We started with a regular ponytail right in the middle/back of her head.  I separated the ponytail into two halves and made a Corkscrew out of each half.
Now I pulled each Corkscrew down first, then around by the ear and finally back to the ponytail elastic.  Add a bobby pin here and there as you wrap it to hold it in place.
Now bobby pin the ends of your Corkscrew under the ponytail elastic and it will give you two rings.  (Do you see how it "sort of" looks like the infinity sign?  I know it's a stretch.)    :)
Add whatever clip you like over the elastics and bobby pins to hide them.  We added "Alli" into her very own swimming pool.  :)
*We've used this style for another one of our Halloween Hairdos starting next week so get excited!  My princess and I got a little over-creative with some!  :)*
